Month’s Theme: Faith (Fully Aligned In Trusting Him)

faith during life's transitions and letting go of the unknown

 Rooted in Hebrews 11:8–10 & Mark 9:24

June carries a quiet weight. It’s in the caps and gowns. The moving boxes. The goodbye hugs and new keys. It’s the season of change—when schools end, jobs shift, homes are sold, and families face a thousand small endings and unknown beginnings.

Faith in the Stepping

For us, June 2017-June 2021 saw a graduation each year. Then, June 2025 a wedding and moving from our home of 25 years to a new one. Now, new grandparents. All changes. All with new opportunities and limitations. Changing relationships and developing new ones.

For many of us, faith through life’s transitions feels holy and disorienting at the same time. And that’s where faith begins—not in certainty, but in the stepping.

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8, ESV)

That phrase—not knowing where he was going—always stops me. I like to know what is coming. I have calendars and checklists everywhere. Some are paper, and some are electronic. The idea of not having a plan feels irresponsible to me.

But Abraham wasn’t aimless. He was obedient. He left what he knew because he trusted the One who called him.
And that’s the kind of faith most of us are asked to live out: not the kind that sees the whole road, but the kind that takes the next step anyway.

But if we’re honest, faith isn’t always strong. Sometimes it’s fragile.

Life’s Transitions Need Prayer

Transitions—especially the ones we didn’t choose—can make us question everything.

And it’s there, in that inner wrestling, that the words of a desperate father speak to me:

I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24, ESV)

That prayer is both confession and surrender. It’s what we whisper when we’re caught between what we know is true and what we feel in the moment. It’s what we offer when our faith is real—but cracked.

Maybe you’re watching a child graduate and wondering if you’ve prepared them well enough. Maybe you’re the one stepping into something new—college, a career, a different city—and fear has tangled itself with hope. Or maybe your season of transition is quiet and unseen: an empty nest, a health diagnosis, a call to care for aging parents.

Faith isn’t the absence of doubt. It’s the willingness to bring your doubt into the presence of God. It’s choosing to walk, like Abraham, even when you don’t know exactly where you’re going—because you trust Who’s leading. It also means believing in God’s promises, even when you’re still living in tents.

The Test in the Transition

The kind of faith that lasts isn’t loud or perfect. It’s honest. And sometimes, it simply sounds like: Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.

My Root Challenge for you:

  1. Identify one area of uncertainty in your life right now—a place where the next step feels unclear.
  2. Write a prayer of surrender. Entrust this specific area to God, asking Him to lead you, even if the path isn’t yet visible.
  3. Journal about where your faith feels fragile. Be honest. Let your journal be a safe place to admit the struggle.
  4. Pray Mark 9:24 each day this week over that area. Just one sentence: “I believe; help my unbelief.” Watch how God meets you in the mix of faith and fear.

Transitions can feel like a breaking—but they can also be a becoming. Let this be the season where your roots go deeper, not because life is predictable, but because God is still trustworthy. Even in the unknown, He is building something eternal.

And in every tent you pitch on the journey, may you remember: You are still headed to the city with foundations—whose designer and builder is God.
