The Cost and Courage of Obedience

Sometimes, God asks us to take a step that doesn’t make sense. It interrupts our comfort and asks for surrender. It challenges our plans. Following God’s call is rarely convenient, but it is always worth it. Also, it’s one of the clearest expressions of living out F.A.I.T.H.—Fully Aligned In Trusting Him.
Whether it’s a job change, a ministry invitation, or a relationship decision, God’s calling often comes with a holy tension: excitement mingled with uncertainty. But the call to follow isn’t about ease—it’s about trust.
The Yes I Was Afraid to Say
Years ago, I felt prompted to serve on a mission trip to Central America. At the time, I was juggling work stress, financial strain, and lingering insecurity about whether I even belonged on the team. I had all the reasons to say no: time, money, fear.
But the tug wouldn’t go away.
One night, I sat in bed with my Bible open and my excuses laid out like a checklist. Then, I read Isaiah 6:8:
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”
My heart broke. I knew it was time to say yes.
That trip ended up changing my life. I saw God move in ways I’d only read about. I prayed boldly for strangers and shared my testimony with teens who were hungry for hope. And I came home with a renewed vision for what it meant to live on mission…even in my hometown.
Faith isn’t about what makes sense. It’s about obedience.
Following God’s Call Is About Alignment, Not Assurance

When Jesus called Peter to step out of the boat, He didn’t give a safety net. He simply said, “Come.” (Matthew 14:29). Peter had a choice. He could stay in the comfort of predictability or risk everything to follow Jesus.
Peter stepped.
We must step too. Following God’s call doesn’t always include detailed directions. But it does come with a promise: God is with us.
To follow well, we need to be aligned. FAITH means more than belief. It means direction. When our heart, decisions, and desires are Fully Aligned In Trusting Him, we’re free to follow, even if we’re unsure of the outcome.
Obedience Unlocks God’s Power

One of the greatest misconceptions about calling is that it only applies to pastors or missionaries. But the truth is, we’re all called to love, to serve, to grow, to give, to go. That calling might look like:
- Starting a Bible study at work
- Saying yes to adoption or fostering
- Leaving a secure job for something God-breathed
- Reconciling a relationship
- Creating something that blesses others
Every act of obedience opens a door for God’s power to move. When we follow His call, we’re not just walking toward something. We’re becoming a person shaped by trust.
Answer the Call
God’s call often begins with a whisper. How we respond determines whether we stay stagnant or step into our sacred and uniquely-designed purpose.
If you’re sensing a nudge today, pause and ask: Am I Fully Aligned In Trusting Him? Am I willing to step, even without a map?
Say yes. Even if your voice shakes, even if it costs you, even if you have to leave comfort behind—say yes. Why? Because following God’s call isn’t about where you’re going. It’s about Who is going with you.
Let your next step be a step of faith. Let it lead you deeper into obedience. Finally, let it remind you: God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called. And he walks right alongside those who are willing to follow.
