When Fear Tries to Win

choosing faith over fear

We’ve all heard it. “Don’t be afraid.” But fear is persistent. It creeps into our thoughts, distorts truth, and tells us stories of worst-case scenarios. Whether it’s fear of the unknown, failure, rejection, or loss, the pressure is real. But choosing faith over fear is a powerful act of spiritual warfare. It’s also a defining piece of what it means to live Fully Aligned In Trusting Him.

Fear will always offer a counterfeit version of security. Faith, however, calls us to deeper trust. It calls us to anchor ourselves in the One who holds every outcome.

A Season Marked by Fear

I once walked through a health scare that nearly paralyzed me. What began as a simple doctor’s visit spiraled into weeks of testing, waiting, and imagining the worst. I lost sleep, skipped meals, and felt like I was sinking under the weight of what-ifs.

One night, unable to calm my thoughts, I opened my Bible and landed in Isaiah 41:10:

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.”

The verse didn’t change my situation, but it did change me. I realized fear had been controlling my outlook, decisions, and emotions. That night, I wrote the verse on a sticky note and placed it on my mirror. It became my declaration: “I choose faith over fear.”

Over the next few weeks, I turned to worship instead of worry. I journaled everything that occupied my thoughts, which gave me space to reflect and reset daily. And when the test results finally came back benign, I knew the biggest victory wasn’t medical. It was spiritual.

Choosing Faith Over Fear Is a Daily Practice

We often think faith is about feelings. But choosing faith over fear is a daily, deliberate decision. It looks like:

Fear says, “What if everything goes wrong?” Faith replies, “Even if it does, God will carry me.”

Living Fully Aligned In Trusting Him means choosing His presence over panic. As needed, we can reinforce that with reminders. It might be a fear-fighting Scripture verse, a worship playlist, or a special piece of faith-based jewelry—a wearable declaration that you belong to a God who never leaves your side.

Biblical Courage in a Fear-Filled World

The Bible is filled with people who felt fear—Moses, Esther, Gideon, Peter. What set them apart was their response. They didn’t wait until the fear disappeared. Instead, they acted in faith despite the fear.

Jesus didn’t promise a fear-free life. He promised His presence:

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Faith over fear doesn’t mean we never struggle. It only means we never surrender. It means choosing courage in the face of chaos because we serve a God who has already won the battle.
