We Can’t Be Free While Clutching Chains

Freedom sounds appealing, but many of us are still chained. By fear, shame, addiction, unforgiveness, bitterness, or unbelief. The good news? Those chains are breakable. God never meant for us to live enslaved. He calls us face to face with breaking spiritual strongholds through the power of His Word.
True LIBERTY begins when we allow Biblical evidence to shine into the darkest places of our hearts. God’s Word isn’t just encouragement. It’s genuine and powerful authority.
When Bitterness Had Me Bound
Years ago, I was deeply hurt by someone close to me. I masked it well, but inside, I nurtured resentment like a prize. I replayed the moment again and again, holding tightly to my “right” to stay angry. After all, she was the one who wronged me. Shouldn’t I be upset?
One day during a sermon on forgiveness, I felt the Holy Spirit convicting me. Not to excuse the hurt, but to free me from it. I opened to 2 Corinthians 10:4–5:
“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. They have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
Bitterness was my stronghold. And Scripture became my weapon.
I began journaling prayers of release. I meditated on verses like Ephesians 4:32 and Luke 6:28. And, I started using devotionals focused on topics such as freedom in forgiveness, and slowly, the weight lifted

Breaking Spiritual Strongholds with Truth
To break strongholds, we need more than willpower. We need truth. God’s truth dismantles the lies we’ve believed for too long:
- “I’ll never change.” → Philippians 1:6
- “God is distant.” → Psalm 34:18
- “I can’t forgive.” → Colossians 3:13
The LIBERTY life invites us to identify strongholds and combat them with Biblical evidence. Utilizing daily Scripture cards, filled with verses and declarations to fight back spiritually, can help you do this. It’s a daily battle, sometimes minute to minute. We need to equip ourselves with the truth so we can fight back against the lies.
Break the Chains, Walk Free
What chains are you still carrying? Don’t ignore them. Name them. Then begin replacing the lies with Scripture. Breaking spiritual strongholds is possible, and necessary, for living in LIBERTY.
You were not created for bondage. You were made for freedom. And when you walk in the truth revealed to you, you step into everything God intended.
