True Freedom Begins at the Cross
We celebrate freedom every July: fireworks, flags, and the privileges we hold as a nation. But as believers, our most powerful freedom doesn’t come from governments or documents. It comes from the finished work of Jesus. Freedom in Christ is the kind of liberty that transforms everything. It’s not political. It’s personal. Freedom isn’t just about rights, but about righteousness.

From Chains to Clarity: My Personal Reset
A few years ago, I was stuck in a cycle of performance-driven faith. I read my Bible, served at church, and tried to “do the right thing.” But my soul felt heavy. I lived in fear of failure, wondering if I’d ever measure up to God’s standards. Or even the standards of others. I lived a constant cycle of fear and worry.
It all came to a head one morning when I woke with a slight headache, snapped at my kids, burned breakfast, broke two dishes, and ended up in tears before 8 a.m. I opened my Bible to try and “fix it,” but instead of striving, I sensed an invitation to simply stop and listen.
That day, I read Romans 8:1:
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
It hit me. I had been trying to earn a freedom that was already mine. But, I didn’t need to hustle for grace. The grace already existed. I simply needed to live as a result of it. That’s when I began to truly understand freedom in Christ. I wasn’t meant to live in guilt or fear. Instead, I was called to walk in love, obedience, and joy.
I started using a journal I’d purchased to track those moments of revealed truth. It provided me a space where I didn’t just read Scripture, but I received it as well. And it changed how I approached everything.
