The Principle of Sowing and Reaping

Galatians 6:7-9 states, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows… Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” This passage teaches us that the seeds we plant—both in our actions and attitudes—will bear fruit, whether good or bad. It’s easy to understand this principle when connected to the idea of planting seeds in a garden. You will reap what you sow.

When we plant seeds of kindness, patience, and obedience to God’s Word, we will reap a harvest of blessings in our lives. However, if we plant seeds of selfishness, anger, or dishonesty, the harvest will not be something we’ll want to gather.

What you plant today shapes your tomorrow. Reap what you sow is a timeless truth. Sow kindness, and you’ll see it return. Sow bitterness, and you’ll likely feel its sting again. Our words, choices, and actions are seeds. They take root in the lives around us—and in our own hearts.

You can’t expect joy from seeds of anger or peace from seeds of worry. But plant with purpose, water with love, and wait with patience, and the harvest will come. It might not be overnight, but it will be worth it. Good seeds always grow in good time.

As we look ahead toward the bountiful crops of autumn, let’s ask ourselves what kind of harvest we want to see in our lives. Where is our focus? Are we letting our light shine? Are there areas in our lives that need a little pruning? Do we need an adjustment to how we’re sowing in order to change what we’ll reap when that seed returns a crop?

If you didn’t change a thing today, what kind of harvest will you gather?
