How to Live in God’s Favor Every Day

At the beginning of this month about God’s favor, I asked myself two questions that I wasn’t entirely sure I knew how to answer.

How do I steward what God entrusts? And what does obedience in relationship look like?

I’ve been sitting with both of those questions for the past several weeks. Through the writing, through the conversations in emails, through my own quiet times and imperfect attempts to practice what I was putting into words. And what I’ve found is that living in God’s favor isn’t a destination you reach after you’ve gotten enough things right. It’s a posture. A daily orientation. A choice you make again every morning with whatever God has placed in your hands that day.

What Living in God’s Favor Actually Looks Like

I’ll be honest. My picture of living in God’s favor has changed quite a bit in recent years.

I began with a version that leaned heavily on outcomes. Favor meant things going well, doors opening, work bearing visible fruit. And while God does work that way sometimes, I’ve come to see that living in God’s favor is less about what happens around you and more about what’s happening in you.

It’s the quiet confidence that the work of your hands matters, even on the days it doesn’t feel like it. The settled trust that obedience to a good God is never wasted, even when the results aren’t visible yet. The deepening relationship that comes from choosing, again and again, to bring what you have and ask God to establish it.

Psalm 90:17 has been the anchor all month: “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands.” Rest and establish. Both unhurried. Both relational. Both available to anyone willing to show up with open hands.

What FAVOR Has Taught Me

Finding Abundance Via Obedient Relationship. That’s what FAVOR spells out for us. And looking back across this month, here’s what I know more deeply than I did at the start.

Abundance isn’t about more.

It’s about recognition. Seeing what God has already placed in your hands and treating it as the gift it is. Obedience isn’t about compliance. It’s about trust made visible, loyalty expressed through action, love returned to the One who gave it first. And relationship with God, as well as with the people He’s placed in your life, is both the context and the reward of living in God’s favor.

None of this is a one-month project. But a month of intentional focus can re-calibrate something important. It can shift your eyes, quiet the striving, and remind you that favor isn’t something you chase. It’s something you receive, steward, and live from, one obedient, open-handed day at a time.

Living in God’s Favor Going Forward

Don’t let the re-calibration fade.

Keep asking the questions. Keep bringing what’s in your hands to God and asking Him to establish it. Keep choosing relational obedience over fearful compliance. Keep noticing the abundance that’s already present in the ordinary moments of your days.

Living in God’s favor isn’t reserved for the spiritually advanced or the especially gifted. It’s available to anyone who is willing to stay close, stay open, and keep showing up. Imperfectly, consistently, in relationship with a God whose favor already rests on you.
