living free

I had this idea for a long time that living free would just happen. Like one day I’d wake up and the doubt would be gone, the fear would be quiet, the anxious thoughts would have packed their bags and moved out permanently. Life would feel open and light and certain.

That day hasn’t come yet. And honestly? I’ve stopped waiting for it.

What I’ve found instead is a freedom that doesn’t depend on everything being resolved first. And I think that might be exactly what God had in mind all along.

What Living Free Looked Like on My Hardest Days

There was a season last year when it felt like everything needed something of me all at once. Writing deadlines, homeschool rhythms, family needs, the emotional weight of watching people you love navigate hard things. I wasn’t drowning, exactly, but I wasn’t above water either.

Living free didn’t look triumphant during that stretch. It looked like getting up anyway. Praying when I didn’t feel like it was doing anything. Choosing slowly and imperfectly not to let the weight of everything become the only thing I thought about.

Romans 12:2 became a lifeline: “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Not transformed when things settle down. Transformed now, in the middle of the unsettled mess, by returning to truth one more time.

Living Free Is Quieter Than You’d Expect

Sometimes, I can’t believe I actually thought living free would arrive with some kind of fanfare, heralding the moment I started living that way. However, it isn’t always that dramatic. There’s no soundtrack. No fireworks. No lightbulb moment. And nobody hands you a certificate.

Most of the time it feels like a small internal shift. That anxious thought showing up and you catching it faster than you used to. The old fear pattern starting and you recognizing it before it gets loud. The reflex to worry giving way, slowly, to a reflex toward prayer.

Those small shifts are the fruit of a truly renewed mind, the practiced faith, the daily redirects. They don’t announce themselves. But they do accumulate. And one day you look back and realize the grip has loosened in ways you didn’t notice while they were happening.

That is living free. Quiet, real, and more solid than any feeling could be.

We started July asking two questions: What no longer owns me? and In what ways can I exercise my faith to help me live free from doubt, anxiety, or uncertainty?

FREEDOM — Faith Rightly Exercised Erases Doubts Of Mind. That’s the work. And it’s worth it.

Living free isn’t a finish line. It’s a direction. And every time you choose truth over fear, renewal over replay, trust over control … you’re walking in it.

As we close out this month, what’s one thing that has shifted in how you think about freedom?

Take a few minutes to journal or record a voice memo answering this: “One thing that no longer owns me the way it used to is _____, and what made the difference was _____.” I’d love to hear what God has been doing in you this month. Share it in the comments. Your story might be exactly what someone else needs to read today.
